Singapore General Election 2006
Monday, May 01, 2006, 1:15 AM
Singapore General Election 2006 (English Assignment) The most important upcoming big event for all Singaporeans now is The Singapore General Election 2006. News about the event is all over. You see it on televisions, read it on newspapers and even hear it through radios. You definitely see posters, flags and banners all over public places. This is how big the event is. First, let’s list down some major political parties involve in the election. They are the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), People's Action Party (PAP), National Solidarity Party (NSP), Pertubuhan Kebangsaan Melayu Singapura (PKMS), Singapore Justice Party (SJP), Singapore People's Party (SPP), Singapore Democratic Party (SDP), and Workers' Party (WP) of Singapore. As you people can see that I have highlighted PAP in red. Why did I do that? It’s simply because PAP seems to stand out from the rest of the party. They have been the popular political party which most Singaporeans trust to do a good job in making Singapore better. PAP has been the ruling party of Singapore since 1959. The party was first, led by Mentor Minister, Mr Lee Kuan Yew from 1959 to 1990, followed by Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong in 1991, and then the present Singapore’s Prime Minister, Mr Lee Hsien Loong. For many years, the efforts in making a ‘kampong’ place like Singapore to a well-developed city country has proven the abilities of the PAP. They are capable of ruling a country well, bringing peace and harmony to the citizens and kept on improving the lives of Singaporeans. They definitely did a great job and deserve to still remain in the parliament. However, it still depends on the voting. Everyone has different point of view. I may think that PAP should continue to rule Singapore but others can think another way round. They may support any of the opposition parties. For me, if I am able to vote for this election, I would definitely give my vote to the PAP. My reason for this is simple. They are just too experienced and I trust their ability in governing Singapore, bringing Singapore further high up. Singapore has become what it is today, a successful and well-developed country all because of PAP. Just imagine…if any of the opposition parties were to win in this election, how would Singapore be like in the future? Remember this… The opposition parties are not as experience as the PAP and they might not even be ready to take over even if they win. |
